Neil Gaiman was born in Hampshire, UK. However, he now lives near the Twin Cities in Minnesota. As a child he spent most of his time in libraries, and really enjoyed reading the works of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, James Branch Cabell, Edgar Allen Poe, Michael Moorcock, Ursula K. LeGuin, Gene Wolfe, and G.K. Chesterson. His writing career began when he was a journalist in England. The first book that he wrote was a biography on Duran Duran. He is said to be one of the creators of modern comics, as well as an author who writes many different genres for many different age groups. Gaiman is also listed as one of the top ten living post-modern writers in the Dictionary of Literary Biography. He is also the New York Times bestselling author of the novels Neverwhere, Stardust, the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning American Gods, Anansi Boys, Good Omens, and the short story collections Smoke and Mirrors, and Fragile Things. Gaiman wrote the screenplay for the original BBC TV series of Neverwhere, Dave McKean's feature film Mirrormask, co-wrote the script for Zemeckis's Beowulf, and produced Stardust, a film based off of his book. His book The Wolves in the Wall was made into an opera, and Coraline was made into a musical.
